Italian articles can be tricky, especially when the noun begins with a vowel or certain consonant combinations. Here are five common mistakes Italian learners make — and the correct forms to remember.
Studente begins with s + consonant, so it takes lo rather than il.
The plural of lo studente is gli studenti.
Before a vowel, la becomes l’.
Libro takes il in the singular, so its plural is i libri.
Amico is masculine, and its plural form uses gli: gli amici.
